As a child my Nan taught me to crochet. Despite much experimentation in my art practice, this way of making has always been something I come back to. Whilst crochet is a traditional skill which can be passed down for generations, everyone has their own style of making. I enjoy using traditional patterns and amend them to create my own unique patterns and projects. Creating artwork you can wear or give as a handmade gift has always given me a sense of pride and inner joy. Whilst running workshops, I like to guide participants to create art which then becomes their personal belongings. Crochet has simultaneously began to become a part of my self-care routine and I recognise its potential for improving our mental wellbeing and our health generally. Consequently, working with participants with mental health challenges and learning needs has become a particular passion of mine.
